    Contestant Clothing Requirements
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY -- CLOTHING REQUIREMENTS HAVE CHANGED.

▪  No jeans/pants or shirts with holes.
▪  All shirts and jeans/pants must cover the student. No bare midriffs.
▪  No school name on the shirts.
(If your school or name is on the shirt you will
be expected to cover it with tape or turn it inside out.)

See contests below for more information regarding proper dress.

*Students in these contests can wear the appropriate "work" uniform or school uniform but must cover their school name if printed on their shirt.

Contestants in all other contests are expected to wear safety shoes or boots, jeans and a t-shirt due to the type of work being done in their contest. No school logos can be visible during the contest.

    Resume
A resume will be required of every Career Preparation & College contestant. (Except Action Skills and Team Problem Solving.)

Resume Lesson Plan (PDF)

EVERY CONTEST COMMITTEE WILL COLLECT RESUMES and points will be deducted for no resume.

(The resume will be used as part of the Professional Development Program section of the contest.  The SkillsUSA Knowledge Test will still be given as a tie-breaker. Many of the contests will have a station for an interview of contestants, others will merely collect the resume this year.  A maximum of 5 points will be awarded for the PDP section of the contest.  If your students’ contest does not have an interview station, but only collects the resume, there will be 5 points available for a go/no go station.)

    Knowledge Test
All Career Preparation (high school and college) contestants are required to take a 25 question SkillsUSA knowledge test. It is used as a tie-breaker. A study guide is available here (PDF).

Advisors are expected to proctor the test by Friday, March 27 here.

    Technical Standards
The national SkillsUSA Championships Technical Standards (2009) for the Skills USA Championships* are the official rules and regulations for all national-level Contests.  This publication is updated every three years. This year's National contests are based on the new edition.

Order your copy by calling National SkillsUSA at 1-800-321-VICA or visit www.skillsusa.org/store/singles.html )

State-only contests' rules and regulations are published on our website www.azskillsusa.org/contests.htm  These rules and regulations are reviewed and published each year.

    Volunteer for the Championships
We need a few groups of students (supervised by teachers) to help with the move-in and move-out of the contests. Contact the state office at 602.542.5565 for more information.

Leadership Contest Attendance or Withdrawal Requirement

In order to decrease the number of "no show" students in leadership contests the following new policy will apply:

If a student is registered for both a leadership contest and a skill contest,
failure to attend the leadership contest will result in a 10% point of the contestants skill contest score.

In order to avoid the 10% point deduction, please do one of the following:

A. Withdraw the student by Friday, April 3 from the contest by contacting Sandy Keams at 602.542.5197 or email sandy.keams@azed.gov

B. Notifying the SkillsUSA office by Friday, April 3 from the contest by contacting Sandy Keams at 602.542.5197 or email sandy.keams@azed.gov

This policy is a result of a large number of "no show" students in several leadership contests. We are happy to provide judges for contests, but a high "no show" amount simply wastes the valuable time of our judges.

    Awards Session Requirements
"WINNERS AT THE AWARDS SESSION WILL NOT BE ALLOWED ON TO THE STAGE FOR THEIR MEDALS IF THEY ARE NOT APPROPRIATELY DRESSED according to the Conference Attire Policy. This will be enforced backstage prior to any contestant being allowed onstage.

The Arizona SkillsUSA Board of Directors and Executive Council endorse the above policy.  Advisors can check with their Board Member or call the SkillsUSA--Arizona office for additional clarification.
