  Advisors NOT Attending
If you are not accompanying your students to this conference, YOU MUST have another teacher assigned to pick-up your registration packet. Registration materials will NOT be given to students. Students must have their name-tags on to compete. ALL STUDENTS MUST BE CHAPERONED BY A DISTRICT EMPLOYEE OR FAMILY MEMBER.
Leadership Attendance or Withdrawal Requirement     NEW

In order to decrease the number of "no show" students in leadership contests the following new policy will apply:

If a student is registered for both a leadership contest and a skill contest,
failure to attend the leadership contest will result in a 10% point of the contestants skill contest score.

In order to avoid the 10% point deduction, please do one of the following:

OPTION #1:    Withdraw the student by Friday, April 20 from the contest by submitting the form here.
OPTION #2:   Notifying the SkillsUSA office by Friday, April 20 of a substitute is acceptable
  and can be submitted here.

This policy is a result of a large number of "no show" students in several leadership contests.
We are happy to provide judges for contests, but a high "no show" amount simply wastes the valuable time of our judges.

  Contestant Clothing Requirements
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY -- CLOTHING REQUIREMENTS HAVE CHANGED.

Contestants in skill contests do not have to purchase the uniform as stated in the SkillsUSA Championships Technical Standards. However, they must follow all safety guidelines for their specific competition. Contestants wearing unsafe clothing (including shoes) will be disqualified.

▪  No jeans/pants or shirts with holes.
▪  All shirts and jeans/pants must cover the student. No bare midriffs.
▪  No school name on the shirts.
(If your school or name is on the shirt you will be
expected to cover it with tape or turn it inside out.)

See contests below for more information regarding proper dress.

  Conference Attire Policy
There are 3 clothing options listed here: Conference Attire Policy. Please be sure your students are dressed appropriate for opening/closing sessions, contests and while representing SkillsUSA in the Phoenix area.

  Awards Session Clothing Requirements
"WINNERS AT THE AWARDS SESSION WILL NOT BE ALLOWED ON TO THE STAGE FOR THEIR MEDALS IF THEY ARE NOT APPROPRIATELY DRESSED according to the Conference Attire Policy. This will be enforced backstage prior to any contestant being allowed onstage.

The Arizona SkillsUSA Board of Directors and Executive Council endorse the above policy.  Advisors can check with their Board Member or call the SkillsUSA--Arizona office for additional clarification.

  Resume
A resume will be required of every LEVEL 2, LEVEL 3 & COLLEGE contestant. (Except Action Skills and Team Problem Solving.)

Resume Lesson Plan (PDF)

EVERY CONTEST COMMITTEE WILL COLLECT RESUMES and points will be deducted for no resume.

(The resume will be used as part of the Professional Development Program section of the contest.  The SkillsUSA Knowledge Test will still be given as a tie-breaker. Many of the contests will have a station for an interview of contestants, others will merely collect the resume this year.  A maximum of 5 points will be awarded for the PDP section of the contest.  If your students’ contest does not have an interview station, but only collects the resume, there will be 5 points available for a go/no go station.)

  Knowledge Test
All Level 3 & College contestants are required to take a 25 question SkillsUSA knowledge test. It is used as a tie-breaker.

2006-07 Knowledge Test Study Guide (PDF)

Contestants in the Technology Division--Level 1 & Level 2 Contests will NOT take the Knowledge Test.

Each team is to supply a standard VHS camcorder (or digital camcorder) with battery power, tripod and external mics, cable, and a VCR and a monitor. Each team should also supply a power strip. A mini DV/SVHS deck will be provided for teams to choose which type of tape they would like to provide for the judging

5.  Shooting the On-site video: Teams will story board a one-minute promo of the state conference, SkillsUSA--Arizona Championships.

The teams will NOT have access to Halls C,D &E on Wednesday due to the constraints of move-in.  They may however, shoot at the Leadership events with permission of each contest chair, the registration/lobby area and the Opening Session, which begins at 5:30 PM.  On Thursday teams will have access to the Skill contests following the start of competition at 8:00 AM.

2007 Update

Below are a few important things to notify you about this year’s welding contest:

·         The welding contest committee has created a website for the Arizona SkillsUSA Welding Contest.  Be sure to visit www.AZSkillsUSAWeld.org to obtain specific contest information that is required reading for the advisors and each contestant.  This information is the only information the Welding committee will provide, and the website is the only format we will convey this information.

·         WORK BOOTS ARE REQUIRED TO COMPETE.  This rule change that was unanimously voted on by all welding advisors present at the 2005 contest debriefing.  For safety reasons, and to eliminate the use of flammable footwear, we will require work boots be worn by contestants at all times during the contest.

·         There is a WELDING MATH portion of the contest.  The math test replaces the break area from years past.  Since math is an important part of the AIMS test, the committee feels that this is an important addition to the contest.  The math portion of the contest was created to illustrate the importance of math in the welding world as well as meet the requirements of the Kellogg Foundation Grant that SkillsUSA has received nationally.  This is the second year for the math test and it will be scored

·         NO SNACKS OR LUNCH WILL BE PROVIDED.  We will have water available for students.  Should a student require something to snack on they must bring their own snack.  Keep in mind that there will be little opportunity to have a snack during the contest but a quick energy bar may be a good thing to have handy if hunger strikes.

·         We will use the contestant number assigned by AZ SkillsUSA.  In years past, we created new numbers for contestants; we will no longer create new numbers.  As is practiced at the National Welding contest, the student will become the number assigned to them from AZ SkillsUSA and that number will need to be placed on the back of their welding jacket or shirt and will need to remain visible for a judge at any time.

From the Entire Welding Technical Committee Good luck at this year’s welding contest!  We hope it is a beneficial part of your welding program and we look forward to seeing you there!  We strive to run a fair contest and everyone that is here to participate truly believes in the mission of SkillsUSA.

Good Luck and we look forward to seeing you on the 24th!
